The world has come a full circle for S Aravind in less than a week. Last Friday, the RCB left-arm pacer was trying to get over the disappointment of a last-ball loss to the Warriors despite bowling just one bad delivery out of six in the final over. On Thursday, he found himself in the India ODI squad for the first time.The man himself was surprised by the sudden elevation. "I wasn't expecting the call this year, especially after I missed the Emerging Players tournament due to injury. After I recovered I was hoping to do well this season and was looking for a call next year," Aravind said.
Royal Challengers bowling coach Venkatesh Prasad called Aravind "the find of this year's IPL". Aravind's 21 wickets from 13 matches in the IPL, which made him the third highest wicket-taker of the league, must have weighed heavily on the selectors' mind, but his performances for Karnataka in domestic cricket has been steadily improving as well.
"Last season, he was the bowler we turned to for wickets," said Sanath Kumar, who coached the state till last season. "He can move the ball both ways, has got good variations and is mentally very strong."
