South Africa cricket team took command of the proceedings, scoring 298/1 at stumps on Day 1 of the first Test against Bangladesh cricket team at Senwes Park, Potchefstroom, on Thursday. Debutant Aiden Markram scored 97 while Dean Elgar scored 128 not out, giving South Africa a good start after Bangladesh won the toss and opted to bowl. After Markram’s fall, Hashim Amla (68 n.o*) joined Elgar and continued the onslaught. Bangladesh have lost all four previous Tests in South Africa by an innings, despite winning the toss on all four occasions. In their favour, though, is improved form since their previous tour in 2008/09 and a Potchefstroom pitch less likely to help South Africa’s formidable fast bowlers than other surfaces in the host country.
