Afghanistan appear to have unearthed another promising slow bowler to follow in Rashid Khan’s precocious footsteps and Mujeeb’s own star is set to rise after taking a place in the record book away from Pakistan great Waqar Younis.
Waqar was 18 years and 164 days old when he snared 6-26 against Sri Lanka in April 1990, but the near 28-year record has fallen to Mujeeb, who took 5-50 on Friday, aged 16 years and 325 days.
Mujeeb accounted for Zimbabwe’s openers Solomon Mire (9) and Hamilton Masakadza (4) before returning to oust the lower order, with captain Graeme Cremer (2), Kyle Jarvis (0) and Blessing Muzarabani (0) also falling victim.
Craig Ervine scored an unbeaten 54 but Zimbabwe crumbled around him, falling 134 all out.
And Afghanistan comfortably knocked that off with more than half of their overs in hand, Mohammad Shahzad scoring an unbeaten 75, sealing a series triumph after going 3-1 up with the fifth and final game to come on Monday.
