Two key members of the 1983 World Cup winning squad, Sandeep Patil and Balwinder Singh Sandhu, have quit the Indian Cricket League along with history-setting Indian Test captain Ajit Wadekar, it was learnt on Wednesday.
Former Test left-arm pacer Karsan Ghavri has also submitted his resignation papers to the rebel league floated by Subash Chandra's Essel Group, sources in the know of the development said.
"All the four (based in Mumbai) have quit the ICL and are awaiting the No Objection Certificate from them to fulfill the Cricket Board's recently announced amnesty scheme for players and others connected with the rebel league," they told PTI.
While it's not clear what stand the ICL would take on the issue, sources were optimistic that they would be released from their contractual obligations by the League by May 20.
Patil and Sandhu were coaches attached to different ICL teams while Wadekar, who led India to historic back-to-back Test series triumphs in the West Indies and England in 1971, and Ghavri were on the panel of mentors.
