The 30-year-old captured three wickets off successive overs, either side of tea on Day 4 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, dismissing Mitchell Marsh (13) and Mathew Wade (0) before the break to leave Australia on 101 for six chasing 188 for victory before clean bowling Mitchell Starc (1) on resumption to make it 103 for seven.
Ashwin, the world No 1 Test bowler, had faced some criticism over the line he bowled in the Australian first innings after he took 2/84 while bowling a marathon 49 overs from the same end from where Aussie counterpart Nathan Lyon took 8/50. (SCORECARD)
But the Indian spinner was a transformed bowler as he attacked the batsman as well as hitting the rough and turning it sharply with bounce.

Ashwin became the fastest to take 200 wickets earlier in the home season. He took seven wickets in the Pune Test, which India lost by 333 runs after being dismissed for 105 and 107.
