Shashank Manohar ended the suspense over his tenure as International Cricket Council (ICC) chairman after deciding on Wednesday that he will stay in office until his term ends in June, 2018.
In March, Manohar had stunned the cricket fraternity with his sudden decision to resign as ICC chairman, citing personal reasons.
Manohar, a former Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president, was, however, persuaded to stay on till the ICC annual conference in June when the new governance and revenue models adopted in the Board meeting in Dubai in April will be ratified.
Last month, the BCCI was outvoted at the ICC meeting in Dubai after the richest national cricket board opposed the revised revenue and administrative models that were adopted.

It is understood that Manohar was once again persuaded by the ICC full members and associates to continue till his term ends. The ‘overwhelming support’ is the reason Manohar has decided to stay on.
Manohar has led the initiative to dismantle the Big Three model piloted in 2014 by then ICC chairman N Srinivasan, which ensured the lion’s share of the global cricket revenues in the 2015-2023 cycle will go to the BCCI, Cricket Australia and England and Wales Cricket Board.

{{/usCountry}}The BCCI has been the only full member to oppose the ICC’s new revenue structure. It has also opposed, along with Sri Lanka Cricket, the new governance model.
Manohar’s has offered BCCI an extra $100 million, above the projected $293 million, which still stands. There will be a round of negotiations between the BCCI and a five-member ICC group headed by Manohar to arrive at a desired figure.
