India have sealed victory in their ongoing three-match ODI series against the West Indies by chasing down a target 312 in the second match on Sunday. While Axar Patel was the standout performer for leading India's rearguard action and winning the match with a six, the likes of Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill had important roles to play.
Gill got India going as he opened the innings with captain Shikhar Dhawan. While Dhawan struggled to score, eventually falling on 13 off 31 balls, Gill scored a quickfire 43 off 49 balls. However, he fell while attempting a scoop which only went straight into the hands of the bowler himself.
Gill has scored a half century only once in the six ODIs he has played thus far and former Pakistan captain Salman Butt has said that the youngster needs to start converting his good starts into big scores.
"Shubman Gill played well, but once again threw his wicket after being set. He's been doing that repeatedly now. While he does play very well, I think he needs to carry on and score big because he has a lot of talent," said Butt on his Youtube channel.

{{/usCountry}}Butt praised India for the kind of bench strength they have. India are playing the series without their major stars including captain Rohit Sharma. And yet, they have won the series with a game to spare. “India have a solid bench strength. They are in a developmental phase and a lot their pool of players is continuously increasing. We can't see much difference in the team even when several big names are absent,” said Butt. "This is because the management is providing consistent opportunities and the players have been responding well. The communication has become very clear."
