Forced to leave the ground in the 40th over on the first day, Kohli spent the rest of the first day and the whole of second day in the dressing room getting medical attention from the support staff. He had undergone scans on Thursday night, prompting some media reports which said he had been ruled out of the Test. (India vs Australia: Day 3 scorecard)

However, his stay at the crease was not long as he was out for six after being caught by Steve Smith at second slip off Pat Cummins.

Kohli emerged only once on Friday before the start of play with a tape on his shoulder but later Umesh Yadav said that Kohli had been attending nets and looked fine to bat whenever needed. The work put in by the support staff showed when Kohli was seen walking out after lunch with his bat on the same shoulder that was injured.
