Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli had a forgetful outing with the willow in India's previous Test assignment against Bangladesh. Even though Kohli has regained form in the limited-overs format, the batting icon has failed to fire for India in red-ball cricket. The former Indian skipper notched up mediocre scores (1, 19 and 24, 1) in the two-match Test series between India and hosts Bangladesh.

With Australia touring India for a four-match Test series, batting icon Kohli will hope to return to scoring ways in the longest format of the game. Talking about Kohli's lean patch in the second edition of the ICC World Test Championship, former Indian batting coach Sanjay Bangar has backed the batting maestro to create an immediate impact against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

"He loves to play against Australia. He loves to have that banter against the Australian players and he raises his game, and Test cricket is a format which brings the best out of Virat Kohli as well. Yes, the last two-and-a-half years haven't been as productive by his standards. So he would want to continue the freshness of approach that he has enjoyed in the T20 and ODI formats and now he would look to transform that into Test cricket as well. So he is going to make a big bang and create an impact in this series as well," Bangar told Star Sports.

"All the indications are in that direction because he has already made great strides in overcoming the lean patch, whatever lean patch you may have to call because of the level of cricket that he has played. We are very optimistic that he will be able to overcome whatever challenges that he has had to encounter in the Test format," the former Indian all-rounder said.
