Having moved smoothly to 40, Kohli went well inside the crease to pull a short ball from Adil Rashid. However, as he stepped back and swivelled, his front foot disturbed the stumps and the bail was dislodged. The Indian skipper, who does not have a good record against England, could not believe his luck as India were left in a precarious situation at 361/6. (LIVE SCORECARD)

In 2233 Tests, Kohli is the 22nd Indian batsmen to be out hit wicket. He is the first Indian batsman to be out hit wicket in Tests after 14 years, the last being VVS Laxman during the 2002 Antigua Test against the West Indies.

Kohli is the first Indian Test skipper to be out hit wicket since Lala Amarnath in 1949. Lala suffered the fate against the West Indies in the Chennai Test.
