Shashank Manohar, chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), refused to be drawn into a war of words with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which he headed twice before leaving for the ICC in May.
BCCI president Anurag Thakur had accused Manohar on Saturday of abandoning the Indian cricket board when it needed him the most. “I am not going to react to everything that he (Thakur) says. I have explained whatever I had to say,” Manohar told HT.
Thakur mounted a full-blown assault on Manohar for his reported comments in the media. “It doesn't matter if I am disappointed or not with the ICC chairman’s statements. But I need to convey, as a president, what my Board members feel,” Thakur had told media persons in Greater Noida on Saturday.
“When the Board needed Shashank as president (locked in a legal battle in Supreme Court), he left it in the middle of things. It is like captain of ship leaving a sinking ship before other members,” he said.
Thakur even accused Manohar of not taking the BCCI members into confidence when he mooted the idea of abolishing the Big Three arrangement between BCCI, Cricket Australia (CA) and the English & Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Manohar refused to clarify even this. “I am not going to react to anything,” he said.
