The Ghaziabad police arrested a gang of alleged robbers on Sunday. According to police, the trio has eight different cases of robbery registered against them and were allegedly involved in the case of looting a journalist on the night of August 22. They added that the modus operandi of the gang was allegedly to snatch gold chains and mobile phones while riding a scooty.

The three were identified as Sachin Singh, Dinesh Gurjar and Simran Hussain. They allegedly targeted journalist Mudit Gaur on the night of August 22 in Raj Nagar. Gaur was riding his two-wheeler when the trio stopped him to ask for directions.

“As soon as I stopped, one of the men pulled out the keys of my two-wheeler while the other two pointed knives at me. They escaped with my wallet containing Rs 1200 besides a mobile phone and other items such as ID-proofs and ATM cards. The incident took place in a secluded lane behind the police-post,” Gaur claimed.

The police said that the gang had been in operation since past five-six months in Ghaziabad and Noida areas and have accepted involvement in eight cases so far. All eight cases are registered at the Kavi Nagar police station.

“They allegedly snatched mobiles and gold items besides other valuables from victims. They got the IMEI numbers of the mobile phones changed in Delhi and later sold them. The gang was traced with the help of electronic surveillance as they possessed Gaur’s mobile and switched it on after they made sure that police would no longer track them,” Atish Kumar Singh, circle officer (city II), said.

The three were traced to the NDRF road near Govindpuram while they were riding a two-wheeler which they allegedly used while robbing Gaur.

Apart from the vehicle, the police have recovered four mobile phones, two chains, knives and the items allegedly robbed from Gaur.
