Mumbai’s Bhaskar scored 345 marks out of 360 marks to clinch the top rank in JEE Main 2018.

Bhaskar said a fixed routine and studying ten to 11 hours every day helped him succeed in the tough exam conducted for admission to engineering colleges across the country.

“For good studies, it is important to be healthy and it is necessary to take good sleep because a healthy body leads to a healthy mind,” Bhaskar, a student of Kota’s Allen Career Institute, said.

Bhaskar’s father Arun Gupta, a chemical engineer in Mumbai, graduated from IIT and his mother Alpna Gupta is a doctor.

He credited Allen Career Institute for his success and her elder sister, Elina Gupta, who was “quite supportive”.

A devoted student, Bhaskar also likes to play chess and has participated in several tournaments across the world.

He secured the third place in the World Chess Championships held in Greece in 2010 and adjudged the winner of the 2011 World Amateur Chess Championship in the US.

According to the board, more than 10,00,000 students appeared in the JEE Main 2018 offline exam held on April 8 and more than 200,000 candidates took the online exam on April 15 and April 16.

The top 220,000 candidates will be eligible for JEE Advanced 2018 for admission to Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and other top engineering institutes.

The computer-based JEE Advanced 2018 will be held on May 20.
