It was an extremely close fight, with Shiromani Akali Dal's Lakhbir Singh Lodhinangal winning the election defeating Indian National Congress's Ashwani Sekhri by a narrow margin of 485 votes.
96.9% of the total votes were casted to top three candidates. Shiromani Akali Dal's Lakhbir Singh Lodhinangal grabbed a total of 42,517 votes, while Indian National Congress's Ashwani Sekhri got 42,032 votes. Aam Aadmi Party's candidate Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi bagged 34,302 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties registered 34.7%, 34.3% and 28.0% respectively.
In Punjab Assembly election 2012, Indian National Congress's Ashwani Sekhri defeated Shiromani Akali Dal's Lakhbir Singh Lodhi Nangal by 18,885 votes.
