It was a close contest with All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Arun Kumar P.R.G. winning the election upstaging Dravida Munetra Kazhagam's S.Meenalogu by a margin of just 7,724 votes.
80.0% of the total votes were casted to top two candidates. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Arun Kumar P.R.G. got a total of 77,540 votes, while Dravida Munetra Kazhagam's S.Meenalogu got 69,816 votes. Bharatiya Janta Party's candidate Kannan Alias S.Devaraj grabbed 16,741 votes to finish at the third place. The top three parties secured 42.1%, 37.9% and 9.1% respectively.
In Tamil Nadu Assembly election 2011, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Malaravan T. defeated Dravida Munetra Kazhagam's Veeragopal M. by 40,098 votes.
