All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Rajan Chellappa V.V. won the election by upstaging Indian National Congress's Karthikeyan V. by a margin of 18,839 votes.
The top three candidates split 92.7% of votes between them. All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Rajan Chellappa V.V. got a total of 70,460 votes, while Indian National Congress's Karthikeyan V. secured 51,621 votes. Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam's candidate Mujupur Rahuman S. grabbed the third spot with 17,732 votes. The top three parties got 46.7%, 34.2% and 11.8% respectively.
In Tamil Nadu Assembly election 2011, All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam's Bose.A.K outperformed Indian National Congress's Rajendran.K.S.K by 46,400 votes.
