Priyanka Gandhi Vadra says she will keep fighting for people of Uttar Pradesh regardless of election results

Addressing a rally in Ghazipur’s Jakhania on the last day of campaigning for the UP polls, Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra describes Uttar Pradesh as the land of her ancestors

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday declared she would continue to fight for the people of the Uttar Pradesh irrespective of the 2022 assembly election results. She also described Uttar Pradesh as the land of her ancestors.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was addressing her last public meeting of the 2022 Uttar Pradesh poll campaign at Jakhania, Ghazipur, about 330 km south-east off Lucknow. Ghazipur votes in the seventh and last phase of the UP assembly election on March 7.

At the rally, she told the people about her political journey. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra mentioned the day she was appointed the party general secretary incharge of the state. Back then, some leaders had suggested that she should stay away from Uttar Pradesh, she said.

Without naming Congress leaders, who advised her to keep away, she said her Uttar Pradesh journey started when her brother and then Congress president Rahul Gandhi asked her to begin working in the state.

“Senior Congress leaders, who are now no more in the Congress, advised me to speak to the leadership and get shifted elsewhere (out of Uttar Pradesh),” Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said.

In the midst of the 2019 Lok Sabha election campaign, Rahul Gandhi had named Priyanka Gandhi Vadra as the party general secretary incharge of eastern Uttar Pradesh.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra began her address by pointing out Saturday was the last day of campaigning. She said it was the time for the people to take a call about the party to vote for.

“There is an election in the next two days. You have to decide whether you want to change the way of politics in Uttar Pradesh. If Uttar Pradesh remains in this situation for five more years, you will begin losing even what you have now. You have the right to get education and a job,” she said.

“As far as I am concerned, I have decided about myself. I will not leave you whatever the result (on counting day on March 10). Uttar Pradesh is the land of my ancestors. The blood of my ancestors is there in this land. I will continue to fight for you till a new way of politics of truth begins from here,” she said.

“Question your leaders. Why your work is not being done, or else this will continue,” she said.
