UP election result: BJP leads on 6 Varanasi seats, trails behind SP on 2

VARANASI:The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is leading in six out of eight assembly constituencies in Uttar Pradesh’s Varanasi in the initial rounds of counting. In 2017, BJP and its allies won all eight seats of Varanasi.

The BJP is leading in Ajagara, Sevapuri, Rohania, Shivpur, and Varanasi Cantt and Varanasi north.

The Samajwadi Party is ahead in Varanasi Cantt and Varanasi South.

Pooja Yadav of SP is leading with 4,377 votes in Varanasi Cantt over her nearest rival, sitting legislator Saurabh Srivastava of the BJP who has secured 2,717 votes in the first round. Varanasi Cantt is considered a BJP stronghold and has voted the party in every assembly election since 1991.

In Varanasi South assembly constituency, which the BJP has been winning since 1989, the Samajwadi Party’s Kameshwar alias Kishan Dixit is ahead of the BJP’s Neelkanth Tiwari with 11,505 votes after three rounds of counting in comparison to Tiwari’s 5,359.

In the 2017 assembly election, the BJP and its ally Apna Dal (S) and the previous ally SBSP won all eight seats (BJP-6, Apna (S)-1 and SBSP-1).
