West Bengal Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury on Wednesday said chief minister Mamata Banerjee is trying to prove she supports Hindutva as much as the BJP because of the upcoming elections in the state.
Chowdhury said, “For the first time Mamata Banerjee is trying to prove that she is a Brahmin. Earlier, she used to say that she prays for Muslims and protects Muslims. She has changed after BJP’s entry into West Bengal. She is trying to show that she is not less ‘Hindutvavadi’ than the BJP,” Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
The Lok Sabha MP from Bengal was referring to Mamata Banerjee reciting verses of the Chandi Paath at a campaign rally in Nandigram on Tuesday. Banerjee at the rally had said, “Those who are talking about 70:30 ratio should know that I read ‘Chandi Paath’ every morning before leaving home. I am the daughter of a Hindu family. Do not dare to play the Hindu card with me. I challenge them to have a competition with me in Chandi Paath.”

Mamata Banerjee will fight the elections from Nandigram against Suvendu Adhikari of the BJP. More than a decade ago, both had worked together to bring Trinamool Congress into political prominence as a regional as well as a national power.
