The conversion of Delhi College of Engineering (DCE) to Delhi Technological University (DTU) hasn’t gone down well with students, who are angry with the government’s decision to change its status from a Central University college to a State University.
While the majority of protests are limited to the university’s premises, some students are now venting their anger online. ‘SAVE DCE’, one of five other similar communities started by students on social networking website Facebook, had 2,272 members at last count. The community ‘wall’ is filled with messages by students urging each other to stay united.
“This protest is making me go crazy! But inside me I know ain’t giving up… and I won’t… Love my DCE & Fellow Juniors (sic),” reads one post.
Ravi Shekhar writes, “Everybody believes that engineers have a different approach to solve problems. If you want to prove DCE better than DTU, then we DCEites have to prove we can not only solve mathematics but can also deal with bad politics... And from now we want more people to contribute in the movement.”
To rope in alumni of the college, a website named ‘Save DCE our Alma Mater’ has also been created. The blog-o-sphere’s in on the action, too. Rohan Kaler writes on My Very Own Blog, “We won’t stop till DTU is terminated and DCE is brought back under DU.”
