‘CWG closing and opening galas on track’

Prasoon Joshi says creative director Bharat Bala is executing the concept of opening and closing ceremony which Shyam Benegal, Javed Akhtar and he had submitted to the government.

Lyricist Prasoon Joshi, who along with veteran filmmaker Shyam Benegal and poet, lyricist-scriptwriter Javed Akhtar, is part of the three-member core committee set up to envisage the opening and closing ceremonies for the Commonwealth Games 2010, says that the creative concept was submitted to the government many months ago.

“They’ve approved of it and it’s at the execution stage,” informs Joshi, just back from the US. “We had recommended Bharat Bala as creative director and he’s working on the two galas.”

Refusing to divulge details about the cremonies, Joshi says. “There will be plenty of music and dance, amazing choreography that will mirror India’s many strengths and its vision for the future, interwoven by a narrative structure.” Joshi, along with Akhtar and Benegal, was recruited in an advisory capacity but says the trio is available to the government whenever required, right up to the unveiling in Delhi on October 3 and the wrap on October 14 this year.
