‘I won’t run down anyone’

If I say anything about the appreciation that I receive from people, it would be like blowing my own trumpet,” says Manyata Dutt, reacting to the whole brouhaha of is she or isn’t she a true Dutt bahu and the woman behind Sanjay Dutt’s political debut.

After sister-in-law Priya Dutt’s alleged comments on how Sanjay had been led — or pushed — into politics by Manyata, and that, too, for a party other than the Congress, the latter’s friends in the industry spoke up for her. “Manyata is rightfully Mrs Dutt. No one can take that away from her. I have noticed the changes she has brought to his life. There is stability and a sense of responsibility in his life now,” Amisha Patel, a close friend of the couple, had said then. Manyata refuses to get into a verbal duel when quizzed about Priya’s stance. “I am not the person to reply, especially when the world is talking,” she says. “I will never say anything against anyone. It’s not for me to run down people in the media. I believe in silence.”

She signs off: “It’s morning and a very busy time at home.” Evidently, a homemaker, as Sanjay Dutt has described her.
