In a minute-long video for Unicef, David Beckham’s body becomes a canvas where animated depictions of violence against children were shown.

David Beckham has always been more than a footballing icon. Beckham is known for his fashion statements and is also famous for his tattoos. He has over 40 tattoos on his body; most of inked as tributes to his family and the happy moments with them.

At the end of the video for Unicef against child abuse, David Beckham, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star, says, “violence against children marks them forever. It’s wrong, end it.” (UNICEF)

But, for a Unicef campaign, David Beckham’s tattoos come to life to portray, for a change, some dark truths.

In a minute-long video, Beckham’s body becomes a canvas where animated depictions of violence against children were shown.

At the end of the video, the former Manchester United and Real Madrid star, who is a Unicef ambassador, says, “violence against children marks them forever. It’s wrong, end it.”

Caption of the Unicef’s video reads “David Beckham chose the marks on his skin, but millions of children bear marks that they haven’t chosen. Violence against children is wrong. It’s on all of us to end it.”

David Beckham’s Unicef video portrays violence against children in the spaces where they are meant to be safe -- homes, schools, playgrounds.

Talking to the BBC, Beckham said he heard first-hand account of violence from children whom he interacted with in Cambodia, last year.

“”I was shocked by what I heard, and I saw how violence can leave deep and lasting scars,” he said. “No child should have to endure this.”
