Police identified the deceased as Vinod Kumar, an officer in the central excise department. He was on his way to the office when the accident took place on the Iffco Chowk flyover, police said.

Kumar, who is a resident of Sagarpur in Delhi, commuted to his office in Sector 32, Gurgaon, on a bike every day. The accident took place around 11.05 am, when Kumar riding his Bajaj Discover was hit by a speeding vehicle on the third lane of the four-lane carriageway while travelling from Delhi.

“The accident happened when Kumar entered the flyover and was suddenly hit by the vehicle. His head, which seem to have got entangled with the vehicle, was severed,” assistant sub-inspector Devender Kumar, who is investigating the case, said. A case was registered at the DLF Phase II police station against an unknown driver.

Police said they are trying to get the CCTV camera footage so that the culprit can be identified and arrested.

Two-wheelers are banned on the main carriageway of the Delhi Gurgaon expressway. Last year, 500 people were killed in accidents on this road, and a majority of them were two-wheeler riders. On December 26, 2015, a two-wheeler rider was killed in a similar accident on the flyover near Signature tower crossing after a number of vehicles passed over his body.

In another accident on Thursday, a pedestrian, identified as Heera Lal of Feroz Gandhi colony in Gurgaon, was killed after being hit by a speeding two-wheeler on Basai road. Gandhi was walking near a rubber factory on Basai road when the two-wheeler hit him from behind. He succumbed to injuries, police said.

Police arrested the accused, identified as Aakash, and also seized the vehicle. A police spokesperson said a case has been registered and the investigation is on.
