Spanning 1.2 km, the Sikanderpur underpass starts near DT Mega Mall on Golf Course Road and stretches till the DLF Phase 2 Metro station.

For the residents of DLF City 4, the underpass has come as a commuting boon as it enables a faster and smoother shuttling between home and their workplaces in Cyber City. It has also significantly eased traffic flow on Golf Course Road, especially during peak hours.

More re-routing of traffic and opening of alternative rotes to reduce gridlocks and the volume of traffic on the stretch are on the cards, said traffic police officers on Golf Course Road.

With the underpass now open to commuters, the familiar sight of a long line of cabs, cars and two-wheelers stranded or jostling for space in a bid to get off MG Road, during the peak hours, could soon be a thing of the past. It facilitates non-stop, signal-free traffic movement for 1.2 km.

Sanjeev Arora, a daily commuter from DLF 5 to Cyber City, is happy with the completion of the project. “A long line of cabs and private cars waiting to cross the Bristol Chowk and head towards Cyber Hub in the evening hours was a common sight previously. The opening of the underpass has helped reduce congestion on the MG Road intersection and this is the biggest takeaway for me, as it used to pose a significant hurdle during my drive home,” Arora said.

Since it opened, many residents could be spotted taking a ride through the underpass and even pulling over to click selfies.

Madhu Sudan Choudhary, president RWA, Garden Ville, DLF City Phase 4, said the project has come as a relief for commuters and nearby residents. “Earlier, the commuters had to drive through Signature Tower on way to Cyber Hub and it extended their travel time by 20 minutes. Now, the opening of the underpass has reduced commuting time by 10 minutes,” Choudhary said.

“The underpass has reduced the commuting time from my house to Cyber City and the airport road by as much as 15 minutes. The 5-km drive has now been reduced to 1.2 km and the best part is that there’s no traffic congestion anymore,” Joygopal Podder, a best-selling author and resident of DLF City Phase 1, said.
