Sanitation workers continue strike as garbage piles up across Gurugram

Sanitation workers of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram are protesting and preventing the civic body teams from lifting garbage from various city areas. The workers have been on strike for 15 days and are facing issues related to sanitation. The MCG has roped in residents? welfare associations and non-governmental organizations in their cleanliness drive, while officials have warned that the workers will be dismissed as per the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act. The strike may impact trade and commerce and create a negative impression, resulting in loss of investments.

Man held for strangling sister after a tiff over phone

A 19-year-old man has been arrested in Faridabad, India for allegedly strangling his elder sister after she asked him to stop using his mobile phone and concentrate on his studies. The parents of the siblings were away at a wedding when the incident occurred. The suspect, who had appeared for his Class 12 examinations, reportedly had temperament issues and always had differences with his sister.

Fake call centre busted in Ggm’s Sector 67; seven suspects held

Police in Gurugram have arrested seven suspects for operating an illegal call centre that was allegedly duping people in the US and Australia out of millions of dollars by pretending to provide technical support. Investigators believe around 25,000 people may have fallen prey to the scam, which involved the sending of fake pop-up error messages warning of malware on victims' computers. The suspects charged between $250 and $300 for their supposed services, which involved access to victims' systems via remote desktop application AnyDesk.

MCG recommends FIR against sanitation workers for disrupting garbage collection

Gurugram's Municipal Corporation has issued a notice to 3,000 protesting sanitation workers and recommended FIRs against them for allegedly misbehaving with civic officials and opposing garbage collection. The workers have been on an indefinite strike, resulting in the pile-up of garbage across the city. MCG joint commissioner Naresh Kumar warned that if the workers did not return to work, action would be taken to dismiss them under the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994. Many RWAs have hired private agencies to collect the garbage in their areas.

Girl apprehended for killing brother sent to observation home in Karnal

A 15-year-old girl in Faridabad, India, has been sent to an observation home in Karnal after allegedly strangling her brother following a row over a phone. The girl had reportedly been upset with her parents, believing they favoured her brother. The child welfare committee of Faridabad has recommended counselling for the girl and submitted a social investigation report related to the case. Police were informed by the girl's parents that their 13-year-old son was not responding to their queries and was later found dead.

Officials collected garbage from across Gurugram under police presence despite protests from sanitation workers. MCG joint commissioner Naresh Kumar said that the protesters are trying to create issues for workers who are removing garbage from residential areas and streets. Storm and rain trigger power outages across Gurugram city

Heavy rain and strong winds caused power outages across Gurugram, affecting up to 90 feeders supplying power to several areas. The stormy weather uprooted trees and caused water damage to underground cables. Power outages lasted for several hours, with some residents relying on generators and power backup facilities. Water supply was also affected, with some areas experiencing no supply for the entire day. Discom officials said that power was restored in urban areas by 9am, but it took until noon for power to be restored to city outskirts.

Four nabbed for robbing truck driver of 4.05 lakh

Four suspects, including the co-driver of a truck, were arrested by Nuh police for allegedly robbing INR4.05 lakh ($5,500) from the driver on the KMP Expressway. The co-driver had tipped off his associates regarding the cash that they collected from Bawana in Delhi after delivering iron rods to a firm. The suspects were identified as Sukhwinder Singh, Pramod Kumar, Jatin Chand, and Naveen Kumar. The suspects were sent to 14-day judicial custody on Friday.

Two held for 2019 Hero Honda Chowk flyover collapse

Two officials of the private firm responsible for supervising the construction of Hero Honda Chowk flyover in Gurugram have been arrested by police four years after a portion of the flyover collapsed. The NHAI had appointed the firm to oversee the construction. The suspects were released on bail after joining the investigation. An NHAI technical team had examined the damaged surface in May 2019 and suggested tests to check its structural integrity. A case was registered against unnamed officials of the NHAI and its contractor under sections 336 and 34 of the IPC.

MCG to impose fine for delay in processing waste at Bandhwari

The Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) will impose a penalty on four private companies for delaying the process of processing legacy waste at the Bandhwari landfill. The agencies were contracted to process 200,000 tonnes of waste each in a time-bound manner but delayed the process for various reasons. The agencies were penalised ?41 lakh ($55,000) last month for not following proper procedure to treat the waste. The MCG is yet to calculate the fine amount to be levied on the four companies, but it could be roughly around ?50,000 per day.

Technical glitches, surge in demand lead to power outages across Ggm

Residents of at least 10 sectors in Gurugram have faced long power outages for the past five days, due to ongoing construction work on the smart city project and line snags, according to officials from the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam. The overheating of vacuum circuit breakers due to a sudden increase in power demand in Sushant Lok-1, 2, and 3 and in DLF areas was also cited as a reason. Residents have complained of power outages lasting up to 10 hours, leading to increased maintenance charges as generator sets are being used to run facilities in condominiums.
