Within hours, Gurgaon was one of the top trends on Twitter. With over 12K tweets, #Gurgaon and #gurgaonrains were the top-trending hashtags on the micro-blogging site till Friday morning.

While people criticised the government machinery for being unable to tackle the mess, many chose sarcasm and wit to express their disdain.

A large number of users shared pictures of water logged streets and traffic jams.

People also mocked the proposed name change of Gurgaon to Gurugram.

Meanwhile, Gurgaon police advised people coming from Delhi to avoid travelling on Friday.
