Karni Sena leader Suraj Pal Amu complains of chest pain, in hospital

Judicial custody of the leader of Karni Sena extended by three days, to be produced before the DCP, headquarter on February 2

Suraj Pal Amu, a leader of fringe group Shri Karni Sena leader and a vocal critic of the film Padmaavat, was referred to PGI, Rohtak on Monday after he complained of chest pain and high blood pressure while in jail. His judicial custody was also extended for three days and he will be produced before the DCP, headquarter, on February 2, the police said.

The Gurgaon police on Monday also identified the president of Karni Sena in Gurgaon, who incidentally had been taken into preventive custody and sent to Bhondsi jail. The leader was identified as Devender Singh, a resident of Bhondsi village. Police said he was found to be involved in the Bhondsi bus burning and the stoning of a school bus. “He has been taken on a production warrant from Bhondsi jail and has been remanded in five-day police custody,” Ravinder Kumar, PRO, Gurgaon police, said.

Amu, who has been detained by the police and kept in Bhondsi jail, was admitted to the Civil Hospital Gurgaon on Sunday night after he complained of chest pain and his blood pressure shot up. He was kept under observation till 4pm after which doctors referred him to PGI, Rohtak, a multi-specialty hospital.

Health officials at the Civil Hospital said that based on his echocardiogram (ECG) report, Amu was referred to PGI, Rohtak.

Sources in the police department, however, said that as soon as he is discharged, he would be taken on a production warrant by the Sohna police to investigate his role in the burning of the state bus and other incidents of violence that took place last Wednesday. The attack on the school bus by a group of protesters came as a major embarrassment for the Haryana government.A district -wide operation was launched to put a leash on violent protesters.

It is likely that Amu could be booked under the same charges which have been slapped against the 18 arrested in connection with the Bhondsi incident.

Amu was initially detained under sections 107 and 151 of CrPc to maintain law and order on Thursday. He was sent to judicial custody till January 29. His lawyers on Sunday alleged that he faced a threat to life inside jail.
