Another Marvel superhero has the Indian audience besotted with him. Black Panther, the stand-alone superhero Marvel movie starring Chadwick Boseman, released to a great reception in India. The box office collection on day 1 is Rs 7.2 crore gross approximate, which includes the paid previews on Thursday evening. This makes Black Panther the highest opening for any Hollywood film this year as well as the highest opening fir any Hollywood solo superhero debut film.
The film has also managed to leave the Hindi release of the same day, Aiyaary, which stars Sidharth Malhotra, Manoj Bajpayee and Rakul Preet in the lead roles, far behind. The official collections for the Neeraj Pandey directorial is about Rs 3.25 crore.
Black Panther introduces superhero fans to T’Challa, the king of fictional African nation Wakanda. The post credit scene in Captain America - Civil War gave a sneak peek into the Kingdom of Wakanda and from the word of mouth so far, it looks like Marvel has another successful venture to its name.
The film earned Rs 160 crore ($25 million) from its preview shows in North America alone. Deadline reported that Black Panther is just above Captain America: Civil War ($179.1M) on the three-day all-time chart. It has also eclipsed Disney’s Beauty and the Beast ($174.7M) and WB/DC’s Batman v. Superman ($166M) to become the biggest pre-summer opener of all-time.
The film is expected to collect Rs 1287 crore ($200 million) during the four-day weekend, according to Washington Post.
