Whoopi Goldberg or Oprah Winfrey? US website goofs up on Oscar night

An American beauty website added fuel to fire to the ongoing racism debate in US, after it mistakenly referred to Whoopi Goldberg as actor Oprah Winfrey. The website, which usually deals in giving tips related to beauty, tweeted a photo of Goldberg as she arrived on the red carpet of Oscars on Monday, but captioned it as Oprah Winfrey. “We had no idea @Oprah was #tatted, and we love it,” the tweet read.

The factually incorrect tweet immediately picked up pace on social media with many condemning the Los Angeles-based website for not knowing the difference between the two. “Damn. Is it really that hard to tell us apart @TotalBeauty,” one user wrote.

The website, however, was quick to realise their faux pax and quickly issued an apology before deleting the tweet.

Oprah Winfrey too poked fun at the website’s goof up. Winfrey’s friend Gayle King posted on her Instagram a picture of her and Winfrey sitting on a couch in a perplexed mood.

“We all love Whoopi Goldberg but we don’t all look alike... Jeez,” read the caption for the image.
