The official Twitter handle of the Congress party appeared to have fallen prey to hackers on Thursday morning, barely 12 hours after the party vice-president Rahul Gandhi’s account faced the same ordeal.
The hackers posted offensive messages on @INCIndia, threatening to make a “dump” of party email public soon.
“For every retard out there who thinks we have a political agenda - No, we don’t,” one of the tweets read.
The offensive tweets were erased in a matter of minutes and the party posted a new tweet against the government’s demonetisation move.
The Congress filed a complaint with the Delhi Police cyber crime cell on the hacking of Gandhi’s account.
Senior party leaders had lashed out at the government, blaming the Centre for the lack of digital security at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is pushing for cashless transactions across India.
The complaint was filed by party’s chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, demanding strict action against those behind the hacking.
The Congress raised questions about the digital safety of all Indians and said it reflects disturbing insecurities of the prevalent “fascist culture” in the country.
Gandhi’s account was hacked around 8.45 pm and some messages with profanities were put out, but these were deleted soon thereafter.

{{/usCountry}}“Such lowly tactics will neither drown the sane voice of reason nor deter Rahul Gandhi from raising people’s issues,” Surjewala had said.
