Anti-SIR protest LIVE updates: 'Why is BJP so nervous?' says Akhilesh Yadav

Anti-SIR protest LIVE updates: Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav on 'Mock Parliament' being organised at Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge's residence in Delhi today, told reporters, "Since the government is not listening, a mock Parliament is being organised to send a message that the Election Commission is not impartial and has emerged as one of the biggest threats to democracy and the Constitution. Today, as we remember Acharya Narendra Dev, MPs from all our parties are participating in this mock Parliament."

"Why is the BJP so nervous? If the BJP is not implementing decisions taken in Parliament on the ground, why has it not implemented the law already passed on women's reservation? Why does it not want to hold a debate on the issue? We saw what happened during the last Lok Sabha session. Those who have stolen donations made by devotees and offerings made by people out of faith... what can we expect from them in terms of strengthening democratic values?" he added.

Anti-SIR protest LIVE updates: VHP on INDIA bloc rally timing

Anti-SIR protest LIVE updates: The Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) on Saturday questioned the timing of the INDIA bloc's November 1 rally being held amid Diwali festivities.

The VHP national spokesperson Vinod Bansal said in a post on X on Saturday, pointing out that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's Bharat Jodo Yatra, held between September 2022 and January 2023, had a nine-day break from December 25 to January 2 for Christmas and New Year celebrations.

However, despite repeated appeals by traders' organisations in Delhi to cancel or postpone the November 1 rally, their pleas have fallen on deaf ears, Vinod Bansal added.

"The nation knows that Rahul Gandhi ji's Bharat Jodo Yatra, which ran from 7 September 2022 to 29 January 2023, was given a nine-day break from 25 December to 2 January during Christmas and New Year because they were probably very important for him, his Christian mother, and the party," the spokesperson said.

"But now, hurt by the potential loss of joy from the country's biggest festival—Diwali—and the massive business losses tied to it, Delhi's trader organizations and Hindu society repeatedly requested the cancellation or postponement of the rally called for 1 November, yet not a flea is crawling in their ears. The reason is clear: they have no attachment to this festival, nor any concern for traders or Hindu interests! They show not the slightest inkling of the pain of those thousands of Sikh families whose loved ones were dragged out of their homes, handpicked, and brutally murdered right here in this very Delhi by Congress workers in these same days 22 years ago," the post added.

Anti-SIR protest LIVE updates: INDIA bloc's 'public impeachment' programme against CEC Kumar today

Anti-SIR protest LIVE updates: INDIA bloc leaders are set to hold their 'public impeachment' programme against CEC Gyanesh Kumar on Saturday at 10, Rajaji Marg, the residence of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge.

The programme was rescheduled after being postponed on Friday due to rain in the national capital.

According to news agency ANI, speaking to reporters in Delhi on Friday, the leader of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, said, "By consensus, we have decided to postpone today's program (public impeachment programme against CEC) to tomorrow at the same time because of rain. Anti-SIR protest LIVE updates: 'Enough tangible data and documents proof,' says Pilot

Anti-SIR protest LIVE updates: On the INDIA bloc's proposed public impeachment program against CEC Gyanesh Kumar, Congress leader Sachin Pilot said that, as a political party, we are within our rights to raise this issue and demand answers,

Congress leader Sachin Pilot, speaking about the INDIA bloc’s 'public impeachment program' against CEC Gyanesh Kumar, said the opposition was within its rights as a political party to raise the issue and demand answers.

"There has been enough tangible data and documents proof given for the wrongdoings that Gyanesh Kumar has conducted through his term as Chief Election Commissioner. The most fundamental right that we have is the right to vote," ANI quoted the leader as saying.

"If 13.3 crore people's names are known to be struck off the electoral rolls, it is a big challenge to what we believe is the most fundamental issue in our republic, which is the right to vote... There are no answers given when the questions are asked within Parliament. So, it is quite fair for the people of India, the Opposition, to raise the issues in the public domain... As a political party, we are within our rights to raise this issue and demand answers," Pilot added.
