Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) general secretaries have been asked to follow on party chief Amit Shah’s visits to different states between June and July.
They will submit status reports on organisational targets set for different states to the party on a regular basis until the next Lok Sabha election in 2019, two leaders familiar with the exercise said.
The general secretaries have been asked for the status of tasks assigned at seven levels: State, district, Lok Sabha constituency, assembly segment, mandal, Shakti Kendra (cluster of booths) and booth, one of the leaders said.
General secretaries are the most influential leaders in the BJP after the party president. There are currently seven general secretaries in the party.
Shah began his visits from Chhattisgarh on June 10 as part of the second round of his countrywide tour to meet social media volunteers, Shakti Kendra in charges and other office bearers to take stock of preparation ahead of the 2019 elections.
A general secretary accompanied him on all his visits. “Each general secretary will look after five to six states,” the second leader said. “They will follow up with the state units after Shah leaves and submit to him regularly status reports on the tasks assigned to the state units.”
The status reports for the state and the district level will cover subjects such as the constitution of the executive bodies, their meetings, the functioning of core groups, planning of different fronts and others.

{{/usCountry}}“The status reports will have details of the number of workers on a particular booth and the number of them who have been verified through a personal contact programme,” the first leader said.
Each booth committee will be assigned specific tasks and the general secretaries have been asked to share action plans to execute them.
The general secretaries will also submit reports to Shah on appointments of in-charges and volunteers engaged for expansion works at the Lok Sabha constituency level, the status of appointment of social media experts, media outreach team, and the group that is working towards the execution of central government schemes.
The government has identified eight central schemes such as free LPG cylinder and insurance schemes for 100% coverage in the country.
The first phase of Gram Swaraj Abhiyan to strengthen the Panchayati Raj system was carried out between April 14 and May 5. Its second phase between June 1 and August 15 will further expand its scope.
