Amid tension over violence in West Bengal's Howrah during a Ram Navami procession, state minister Babul Supriyo said he was speaking to a friend who works for a big construction company and his bossed worry that "Bangal mein BJP ayegi toh aag lag jayegi". Section 144 was imposed in some areas of Howrah on Friday, a day after several vehicles were set on fire amid Ram Navami celebrations. Union home minister Amit Shah spoke to West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose while the government handed the probe to CID.
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said the Ram Navami violence was not a communal tension and was perpetrated by the BJP and other right-wing organisations. "I have been appealing to the people to carry out Ram Navami processions peacefully. No government incites people to carry out vandalism. It was the BJP, Bajrang Dal and some of their allies who directly carried out the vandalism," the chief minister said.
