- The nationwide strike on Wednesday disrupted banking, transport and other public sector services as thousands of workers joined the Bharat Bandh today.

Bharat Bandh: Over 25 crore workers across public services took part in a nationwide strike on Wednesday against the Centre's ‘pro-corporate’ policies. The Bharat Bandh has been called by the trade unions across the country, in order to protest against the Centre's “anti-worker, anti-farmer, and anti-national pro-corporate policies."...Read More
The forum of 10 central trade unions has also alleged that government departments have damaged the growth of the country, especially due to the ongoing unemployment crisis.
One of the key reasons behind the protest is due to the four new labour codes passed by Parliament. As per trade unions, these new codes undermine workers’ rights by making it more difficult to strike, increasing working hours, and shielding employers from penalties when they violate labour laws.
Furthermore, the unions are also protesting against the privatisation of public sector units, outsourcing of jobs, and the use of contract workers, which they claim threaten job security and fair wages.
Public transportation services have been disrupted across several regions of the country as the protests rage.
In Odisha, members of the Khordha District unit of the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) blocked a national highway in Bhubaneswar as part of their support for the bandh.
Meanwhile, in Kerala, most shops and shopping malls in Kottayam remained closed in solidarity with the nationwide strike.
