Ujjain superintendent of police MS Verma said police have taken ‘suo moto’ cognizance and registered the case. “We are yet to arrest the accused but we have the video recording. Investigations are on.” Verma said. If convicted, Chandrawat faces three years jail term and a fine.

RSS on Friday sacked Chandrawat from all organisational posts, saying: “Kundan who made controversial statement at Ujjain protest mtg has been relieved of his responsibility in RSS (sic).”

Prant Sanghchalak (area head of the RSS), Prakash Shastri said in a statement on Friday that although Chandrawat had taken back his statement, he had been relieved of his duties as the episode had created confusion about the RSS.

Chandrawat has been associated with the Sangh for over twenty five years and has shouldered different responsibilities, mainly in the Dharma Prachar Shakha. The 46-year-old completed his doctorate on RSS founder Sadashiv Golwalkar and is among the few Dalit leaders of the organisation.

Sources in the Sangh said that Chandrawat’s name was considered during the last parliamentary elections in 2014 from Ujjain seat, which is reserved for Scheduled Caste. However, another RSS worker Chintamani Malviya was given the ticket.

The case was registered under sections 505(1)b of IPC (intent to cause or likely to commit offence against state or public tranquillity).
