Former Congress MLA and party's state vice-president Raja Pateriya courted a massive controversy with his recent remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Amid the outpouring of backlash, Pateriya said he did not mean harm to the Prime Minster but meant “defeating” him.
HT could not independently verify the authenticity of the video in which the Congress leader is heard making the comments.
Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the Congress leader made the comments as the grand old party is unable to compete with the prime minister on the ground.
“Congress's true face is now being revealed,” Chouhan was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.
BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla alleged that Pateriya was inciting harm against PM Modi, asking rhetorically whether Congress will act against the leader. “After “Aukat dikha denge” “Raavan” this is Rahul Gandhi’s Pyaar ki Rajniti? Will they act on him? No!” the spokesperson said while posting a 30-second-long clip.
Madhya Pradesh home minister Narottam Mishra directed the superintendent of police, Panna, where Pateriya reportedly made the remarks, to lodge a case against the Congress leader for disturbing communal harmony and peace. “The police has booked the Congress leader for asking people to kill the PM minister. He has been booked for creating communal hatred among people and trying to disturb country’s law and order,” Mishra said in a video statement.
An FIR was registered against Pateria for making the controversial remark against Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Powai police station of Madhya Pradesh's Panna district, reported news agency ANI.
