The Delhi branch of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) nabbed two people with 106 kg of contraband (Ganja or Cannabis) near Barara railway station in Ambala. The case was registered on Saturday
The CBI had received a tip-off on February 22 that a gang of Soram, 58, resident of Hoshiarpur, and Raju, 35, resident of Panipat, involved in Ganja (cannabis) trade will be meeting in Ambala. There was also confirmation that they were carrying more than 100 kg of contraband for delivery at Barara.
The agency then formed a team comprising DSP Surender Singh and inspector Satyabir Singh to track the case. The team reached Barara railway station at 2 pm on February 23, but news came in that the peddlers would come on February 24.
Changing tack, the CBI team reached Purana Bhatta, railway colony, near the Barara railway station, on Friday evening, where the source identified the drug peddlers for the team.
The CBI personnel then ghearoed the duo, but they resisted any frisking. However, when the team persisted and informed them that the CBI knew about them, they broke down.

{{/usCountry}}Later, the team along with independent witnesses found ‘Ganja’ in four plastic bags, weighing 106.5 kg. The police then took the accused to a room on platform number 1.
On Saturday, they were produced before a court in Panchkula from where they were sent to police remand.
The CBI submitted before court that they accepted conscious involvement in crime related to illegal possession and trafficking of ‘ganja’ for their personal gains. It also added that none of them disclosed from where they bought the drugs but admitted that they were to sell it to a person, whose identity they did not disclose.
Finally, a case was registered under Sections 20 (for possession, selling and transportation of cannabis) read with Section 8 (for concealing the origin of drugs) and 29 (for criminal conspiracy) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, at New Delhi.
A local court in Panchkula granted two-day remand for the two accused as there were apprehension that there could be more people involved with them. They would be produced before court again on February 28.
