The mother of the software engineer Vinay Gupta, who died after being allegedly assaulted by his wife’s family members in Delhi's Nihal Vihar, has shared shocking details of the attack on her son.
31-year-old Vinay died on Friday after being beaten up by his wife Rekha's brothers. Four people, including the wife, have been arrested by the police. Initial investigation by the police has revealed that Rekha had switched off the CCTV camera installed inside the house before the incident.

The deceased, Vinay Gupta, a resident of Laxmi Park, worked as a software engineer at an MNC in Noida, police said. He married Rekha, 31, around three-and-a-half years ago, and they have four-month-old twins.

Gupta’s father, Prem Chand, who lives in the house with his wife, Renu Gupta, said Rekha’s relatives told them that they had come to speak to his son. “I went inside to get water, and when I came out, they started assaulting my son,” he said.

Sharing the details of the incident, his mother said the men pinned her son to the ground and hit him in the stomach. "I just went to give them a glass of water. They had pinned down my boy. They threw him on the bed and grabbed him by the neck. They kicked and punched him in the stomach," NDTV quoted the mother as saying.
The grieving mother said she had gone out to call the neighbours, but when she returned "they had finished my boy". Vinay passed away on the way to the hospital. "I only had one child," she said.
What was the dispute about
According to police, the incident took place on Friday morning after Gupta asked his wife to apply medicine to their son as he had developed blisters on his body. "The two allegedly got into an argument after she refused. Soon after, Rekha left the house and called her two brothers and sister-in-law," a senior police officer said.
Rekha, her brothers Raju and Vedprakash and sister-in-law Poonam were arrested. A case was registered at the Nihal Vihar police station. The accused have been booked under sections 103(1) (murder) and 3(5) (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The police are examining CCTV footage and have recorded the statements of neighbours and family members to establish the sequence of events. Further investigation is underway.
