City police are on the lookout for five men who allegedly poured acid on a dog in Banashankari, south Bengaluru, after a complaint was lodged with Banashankari police by an elderly woman, who witnessed the men kicking a dog and later pouring acid on it. The attackers also threatened the woman when she questioned them, the complaint added.
The incident took place on March 4, in Ambedkar Nagar in Banashankari. The five-year-old dog was living on the street and it was fed by the locals. According to the police complaint, the attackers, who were allegedly in an inebriated state, agitated the street dog and when it reacted, they tied it up and poured acid on it.
“We are looking at CCTV footage and other clues to track down the culprits. They are wanted for both attacking the dog and threatening the elderly woman,” said a senior Banashankari police officer, asking not to be named.
The five-year-old injured male canine was shifted to an animal rescue centre and is undergoing treatment there. The centre has named him Bunny.
Police said that a case has been registered under IPC Sections 34 (criminal act done by several persons), 428 (whoever commits mischief by killing, poisoning, maiming or rendering useless any animals), 429 (mischief by killing or maiming cattle) and 354 (any man who assaults or uses criminal force to any woman or abets such act with the intention).
