  Verbal clash between ruling and opposition legislators over Jharkhand CM's 'absence'

  A verbal clash between the ruling and opposition legislators of Jharkhand took place after Chief Minister and JMM leader Hemant Soren returned home here on Tuesday amid suspense about his whereabouts.

  While the opposition BJP claimed that Soren was "missing" for several hours after going to Delhi, the Congress and JMM alleged that the saffron camp was spreading rumours about him.

  Congress legislator Deepika Pandey Singh said, "The BJP’s ED, Delhi Police and IB together could not locate the chief minister. It is an utter failure of (union home minister) Amit Shah. He should resign immediately."

  Singh said that the BJP was spreading rumours saying the CM was missing.

  As ED looked for him at Delhi airport, Hemant Soren’s 1,200km road trip to Ranchi

  As the Enforcement Directorate (ED) continued to keep a close watch on Delhi airport to trace Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren, the 48-year-old Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) leader decided to make the 1,200km return trip to state capital Ranchi by road, people close to the chief minister said.

  Soren reached Ranchi in the early hours of Tuesday and later, held a meeting of the ruling alliance lawmakers at the CM House to discuss the present political situation in the state. In photographs and videos shared by Hemant Soren’s office on X, a large number of MLAs and ministers were seen greeting Soren before taking part in the meeting. Soren’s wife Kalpana Soren was also present at the meeting.

  Soren wasn’t at his south Delhi house when a team of ED officials reached at 7am on Monday. The federal agency searched the south Delhi house in Shanti Niketan on Monday and camped at the site for nearly 13 hours waiting for him. ED officials said they seized about ₹36 lakh cash, a BMW SUV that is suspected to be registered under a benami name in Haryana and some documents from his Delhi residence.

  After returning home here amid suspense about his whereabouts, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren said that he resides in the hearts of people.

  Soren, who is also the JMM executive president, chaired a meeting of party legislators.

  "I reside in your hearts," he told reporters when asked about his absence.

  Soren was speaking to the media at Bapu Vatika here, where he went to pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary.

  "We all are committed to follow the footsteps and ideologies of the Father of the Nation. We are proud that such people were born among us and gave us guidance," he added.

  J’khand Guv meets senior govt officials, takes stock of security arrangements

  Jharkhand Governor C P Radhakrishnan Tuesday met senior government officers and took stock of security arrangements in the wake of the unfolding political situation, following ED’s search at the Delhi residence of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, a top official said.

  Radhakrishnan called Chief Secretary Lalbiaktluanga Khiangte, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Avinash Kumar, among others, at the Raj Bhavan here, Director General of Police, Ajay Kumar Singh, told PTI.

  Elaborate security arrangements have been made across the state to maintain law and order, including deployment of an additional 7,000 policemen, he said.
