ISRO Launch Live: Proba-3 launch marks new age in space exploration

ISRO Launch Live: The launch of Proba-3, a collaboration between ISRO and the ESA will open up new doors for space and solar exploration.

The shadow cast by the Occulter satellite allows the Coronagraph to observe solar phenomena while blocking out the light from the Sun itself, which is it has been dubbed an “artificial eclipse” maker.

"For six hours at a time, it will be able to see the Sun's faint atmosphere, the corona, in the hard-to-observe region between the Sun's edge and 1.4 million kilometres from its surface," the ESA stated.

The project will help scientists answer important queries, including why the corona is so much hotter than the Sun itself, and how the Sun's energy output changes over time.

ISRO Launch Live: ESA opted for ISRO collaboration due to proven cost efficiency and performance

ISRO Launch Live: The European Space Agency collaborated with ISRO for the successful launch of the Proba-3 rocket, due to the Indian space agency's cost efficiency and performance.

The project which was in development with the ESA for over a decade cost about 200 million euros and received support from over 40 European companies, including SENER Aerospace, Redwire Space, and Airbus Defence and Space.

The ESA also struggled due to continuous setbacks and delays in their launch programme, until it achieved orbital entry today

ISRO Launch Live: Proba engineer says Corona has been ‘poorly investigated’ till now

ISRO Launch Live: Proba-3, which was collaboratively launched using the PSLV-C59 vehicle, by the European Space Agency and ISRO, successfully entered orbit today.

The mission will provide key insights into solar phenomena and will study space weather through its observation of the Sun's outer rim - the Corona.

"The corona of the sun has been very poorly investigated. One of the things we really want to understand is how do coronal mass ejections or solar wind originate in this area," Proba-3 Systems Engineer Esther Bastida Pertegaz said in a pre-recorded video.
