Rebel Karnataka MLAs back in Mumbai

The 14 Karnataka rebels from Congress-JD (S) and also one Independent who headed for Goa on Monday returned to Mumbai again on Tuesday. According to sources, instead of the usual route of Konkan, they took the Pune route just as a safety measure.

However they were caught in massive traffic jam which was heading towards Pune. After that the Maharashtra BJP leaders, looking after their arrangements, took a decision to bring them back to Mumbai.

However, Hotel Sofitel was ruled and they were taken to Hotel Renaissance in Powai.

RS adjourned twice over uproar on disinvestment, Karnataka crisis

Amid uproar over Karnataka crisis and protest against disinvestment, the Rajya Sabha proceedings were twice adjourned on Tuesday.

While Congress members stormed into the Well of the House over Karnataka crisis and blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party for stoking instability, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leaders protested against the government’s move to disinvestment of state-owned companies.

“The Congress has eight MPs in Rajya Sabha and we had given a notice to the Chairman to raise the Karnataka issue in Rajya Sabha, but the Chairman did not allow it. We will raise the demand again in the House once it reassembles,” Congress leader B.K. Hariprasad said.

14 Karnataka MLAs wait for Speaker’s decision on resignation

Fourteen MLAs of Karnataka’s ruling coalition are in a place about 90 km from Pune and will wait for the Speaker’s decision on their resignations before taking a call on proceeding to Goa or returning to Bengaluru, sources said on Tuesday.

The 14 MLAs, at the centre of the crisis in the JD(S)-Congress government, had been staying in a luxury hotel in Mumbai and left on Monday evening for Goa. But they are presently stationed at a location 90 km from Pune, towards Satara, in Maharashtra, the sources said.

If their resignations are accepted, they may even go back to Bengaluru, they added. The MLAs -- 10 of the Congress, two of the JD (S) and two Independents -- were to travel to Goa by road, accompanied by Mumbai BJP Yuva Morcha president Mohit Bhartiya, they said.

In a last ditch effort to save the government, HD Kumaraswamy and top coalition leaders scrambled to save the government with multiple meetings on Monday and announced that all 32 ministers had resigned in a bid to make room for some of the disgruntled leaders. But the strategy appeared to have floundered with several rebel leaders reiterating their commitment to quit the coalition.

BJP to protest in Karnataka demanding CM’s resignation

The opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will stage protests across Karnataka on Tuesday demanding Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy’s resignation as his coalition government lost majority following the resignation of 14 Congress-JD-S legislators and two Ministers, a party official said.

“Our leaders and cadres will hold demonstrations in all the district headquarters across the state between 11 a.m. and noon for Kumaraswamy’s resignation, as he has no moral right to continue after the MLAs of the ruling allies resigned and his government has been reduced to minority in the Assembly,” Bharatiya Janata Party spokesman G. Madhusudana told IANS.
