A woman police constable was stabbed and burnt to death allegedly by a fellow policeman in Mavelikkara in Alappuzha district on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Soumya Pushkaran,32, a civil police officer, working with the Vallikunnam police station.
According to the police, the incident took place when Soumya was on way to her home after attending a students’ police cadet camp near her home town.
The assailant P Ajaz, a traffic policeman working in Aluva station, hit her scooter with his car and when she fell down he stabbed her repeatedly and then poured kerosene before setting her on fire.
As a result of her injuries, she died on the spot, said the police.
The assailant who too suffered burn injuries was overpowered by local people and handed over to the police.
Soumya is survived by three minor children and husband who is working in the middle-east. The police said the motive behind the attack was not known and the assailant was not in a position to give his statement.
