Lok Sabha 2019 constituency: Once a Left stronghold, Trinamool will aim to retain Krishnanagar in West Bengal

Voting will take place on April 29, on the fourth round of the seven-phase election, and counting on May 23.

Actor-turned-politician and the Trinamool Congress leader Tapas Paul has held the Krishnanagar Lok Sabha seat, a former Left stronghold, in West Bengal since 2009.

Tapas Paul had defeated Jyotirmoyee Sikdar of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in the 2009 Lok Sabha election. And in the general election in 2014, Paul won against CPI(M)’s Shantanu Jha.

Before that, the Left party had dominated Krishnapur since 1971, only briefly losing to the Bharatiya Janata Party in 1999.

The ruling Trinamool Congress has nominated its Karimpur MLA Mahua Moitra to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha election on the general seat.
