Odisha: Woman allegedly gang-raped by six men in Cuttack, friend assaulted

The group allegedly stopped their vehicle near Sukarpada village on the Cuttack-Chandbali Road, assaulted the man and raped the woman before fleeing the spot.

Bhubaneswar: A woman was allegedly gang-raped by four to six men in Odisha’s Cuttack district late Tuesday night while she was travelling with a male friend, police said.

The group allegedly stopped their vehicle near Sukarpada village on the Cuttack-Chandbali Road, assaulted the man and raped the woman before fleeing the spot.

Police officers in Cuttack said the woman and her friend were travelling towards Kendrapara from Bhubaneswar when they were stopped by a group of four to six men.

"The accused assaulted the friend and allegedly gangraped the woman. The group then fled the spot,” superintendent of police (Cuttack rural) Vinit Agrawal said.

Based on the complaint lodged by the survivor, an FIR has been registered at the Nischintakoili police station.

"A DSP-rank officer and a woman police officer were assigned to lead the investigation. Multiple teams have been formed to trace and arrest the accused. We are conducting raids at various locations and are hopeful of making arrests soon,” the SP said.

Police said the survivor is receiving medical assistance and support.
