One dead, 7 hurt in Panipat gurdwara roof cave-in

A 24-year-old man was killed and at least seven persons, including two children, were injured as the roof of a gurdwara building caved in at Panipat on Monday.

A 24-year-old man was killed and at least seven persons, including two children, were injured as the roof of a gurdwara building caved in at Panipat on Monday.

Five persons were rescued from the debris. “A search and rescue operation was on to rescue those feared still trapped,” Panipat (city) DSP Atma Ram said.

Sources said construction was going on in the shrine, located on the national highway, when the accident occurred.

A portion of the gurdwara wall collapsed on Monday.

Sources said a portion of the roof collapsed when the devotees were making preparations for the langar.

The deceased has been identified as Dheeraj Kumar, 24, of Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh. The injured are Monika,6, Lokesh, 5, Maya Devi, 60, Jarnail Singh, 75, Deepak Kumar, 24, Sartaj Singh, 40, and gurdwara sewadar Harsimran Singh. The injured have been referred to Kalpana Chawla Medical College in Karnal and they are out of danger.
