India Post's Speed Post service has rolled out a major digital transformation including OTP-based secure delivery, online booking and payment options for parcels, the government announced on Friday.

The upgrades, made to strengthen its position as the preferred delivery service, also includes SMS alerts about parcel delivery and the option of tracking parcels in real-time.
“Since its inception, Speed Post has continued to evolve to meet changing customer needs. To further strengthen its position as the preferred delivery service in the country, it has now been upgraded with the following new features aimed at enhancing reliability, security, and customer convenience,” a government statement said.
The Department of Post has also announced revising the rates for inland posts to meet and facilitate the upgrade.
A parcel of up to 50 grams sent locally via speed post will attract a cost of ₹19, while the rate for out-station delivery will be ₹47 (for even above 2,000 kms).
Meanwhile, a parcel between 51 grams to 250 grams, will attract the rate anywhere between ₹77 (above 2,000 kms) and ₹24 (for local). For a parcel between 251 grams and 500 grams, the rate will range from ₹28 to ₹93, depending on the distance, a data of the Indian Post showed.
