Parliament Highlights: Congress, opposition parties walk out of Rajya Sabha
- The Parliament is all set to start its fourth and final week of the ongoing monsoon session from Monday. This year's monsoon session, which began on July 19, have been rocked by protests.
In the final week of the monsoon session the central government is looking to introduce a crucial bill that restores the states power to identify Other Backward Classes (OBC). This will require a constitutional amendment that needs the support of two-thirds majority of lawmakers who are present during the proceedings, with at least 50% in attendance, making the Opposition's support crucial. Sitharaman says Congress cannot speak in one voice
Sitharaman while speaking on the Taxation Laws Bill, 2021 says the 'former finance minister from the Congress' welcomed it and Shashi Tharoor said that the budget did not repeal the retrospective tax bill. She also gave references to TMC leader Saugata Ray's comments made in 2014 regarding the retrospective tax bill. "They say one thing, and when they realise the credit will come to us, they do not remain when the time comes for correction," says Sitharaman. She made it clear earlier that it is a clarificatory amendment as 'Congress brought a wrong law by amendment'.
