Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level meeting to review India's security preparedness amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. The prime minister was fully briefed on the situation in Ukraine and its global fallout, the position of the Russian and Ukrainian forces. He was also informed of the assessment whether the situation would escalate.
Those who attended the meeting included defence minister Rajnath Singh, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, external affairs minister S Jaishankar, national security adviser Ajit Doval, cabinet secretary Rajiv Gauba, , foreign secretary Harsh Shringla and defence secretary Dr Ajay Kumar.
In wake of the missile attacks on the US consulate in Iraq's Kurdistan, the prime minister was briefed on India's security preparedness on the northern and western borders along with maritime and air defence.
Prime Minister Modi was also briefed on the latest developments in Ukraine, as well as the details of Operation Ganga to evacuate the Indian nationals along with some citizens of India's neighbouring countries.

So far, India has been able to rescue around 20,000 stranded citizens in more than 80 special evacuation flights. Meanwhile, external affairs minister S Jaishankar will issue a statement on Operation Ganga in the second leg of budget session which begins on Monday.
He will also speak on India's stand vis-a-vis the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. The prime minister directed that all possible efforts should be made to bring back the mortal remains of 21-year-old medical student Naveen Shekharappa, who died in Kharkiv.
The fourth-year-medical student was killed on March 1 when he had stepped out of his apartment and went to a supermarket to buy some essentials for himself and those who were staying with him.
